Tested and tried method for relaxing:
You are trying to relax but your mind is busy processing infinite thoughts around you.
You spend 10 minutes, another 5 minutes and then some and so on. But a continuous stream of thoughts doesn’t let you relax.
You are reminded of different tasks to attend to or who said what to you and what you should have said and how was your appearance etc.
All in all, you are not able to relax.
The wave pattern will be like this as thoughts are coming in bulk. Thoughts are physical in nature as these are produced by electrical impulses in the brain. All you have to do is to slow the speed of this wave pattern.

Lay down and take 2 deep breaths. Now start saying something that soothes you – a mantra, a small phrase, any lyrics, or whatever makes you feel happy. It should be short.
And say it very slowly – with pauses. The fast thought pattern will give way to slower moving electrical impulses and the pattern will change to this.
The shift will be immediate, stop all your fast moving random thoughts and your focus will now be on what you are saying with feeling and enjoying.
Add ons that will add to your relaxing time:
Try to find words and rhythm that soothe you.
Make it lyrical.
Say it in soft whispers (ensures better results).
